Ranch at Canyon Ridge Overview

About the owners…

Greg and Bernadette came across this scenic site in the Santa Ynez Valley, about two and a half hours from Manhattan Beach. The beautiful drive meanders thru green & golden rolling hills, farms dotted with cows & agriculture, past Lake Cachuma and into the Santa Ynez Wine Country, just 40 minutes from Santa Barbara.

Greg and Bernadette are both entrepreneurs and run their own businesses, as well as the Ranch at Canyon Ridge vacation rental.  Greg founded “Nearfield Systems Inc.” (NSI) in Torrance, CA in 1988, specializing in qualifying antennas for satellite and commercial communications.  He has since founded and is CEO of his current company, “Next Phase Measurements” (NPM) in Garden Grove, CA.  Some of NPM’s key customers are Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed, and SpaceX.  Greg is passionate about travel, SCUBA diving, and technology.  He currently acts as the IT guy for the Ranch, managing a large number of home automation devices and keeping Alexa tamed!!

Bernadette, moved from Manhattan Beach and lived on a 10 acre farm in Oregon as a child.  The farm had horses, cows, goats, chickens, pheasants, turkeys, pigs, rabbits, dogs and cats!  It was there, in that beautiful farmhouse that Bernadette’s Mom and Dad lovingly refurbished, that she grew into the person she is today. Their family nurtured the land, grew their own fruits and vegetables, tended the animals which fed them and sewed the clothes that warmed them. They also did an assortment of things, including macramé, decoupage, canning vegetables, picking berries while horseback riding to then make jam and welcoming guests to their farm. It was a beautiful place to learn about life, love and what is important.  It was a very grounding, humbling and learning experience that has always lingered deep in her heart.

Bernadette founded “Elegance Boutique Spa” in Manhattan Beach, CA in 1983 and still travels there to treat her long list of loyal clients.  For those who want a change of pace, her guests come up to the ranch for a peaceful stay and pampering in the sweet Cottage Spa on the Ranch!

Greg & Bernadette knew they had found a very special and magical place, centered on their shared vision and what they love…a grounded, peaceful, serene and wholesome lifestyle with good food, good wine, family and friends.  At “The Ranch”, it is here that brings it all together.  Time seems to stand still at this rural homestead and they are blessed to share their dream with others! They have lovingly blended their talents to create this blissful plot of land for you to enjoy…

Vandenberg AFB / SpaceX Falcon 9 Launches

Our ranch is about 30 miles east of Vandenberg AFB, and we are treated with some spectacular viewing of some of the SpaceX Falcon 9 launches. See our page here for some pix and videos from recent launches.  Pic at the right is taken shortly after first stage separation and shows the second stage continuing on its way to orbit, and the first stage doing a boost-back burn to return to its successful landing at VAFB for reuse on a future flight!
